Recommended Gear

Last updated: May 2, 2025

As a dedicated motorcycle traveler who spends countless hours on two wheels, I rely heavily on gear that doesn't just promise reliability - it delivers. Everything recommended here has been personally tested, abused on long trips, and genuinely approved by me.

If something doesn't perform well on my rides, it doesn't make this list - it's that simple.

Travel Essentials

Helmet: Harley-Davidson (120th Anniversary) Capstone Shunshield H31

A solid modular touring helmet with sleek looks and practical features. The built-in sunshield is a game changer for variable light conditions, especially during longer trips with changing conditions. Ventilation is good, and the fit feels secure without pressure points. It’s not the lightest helmet, but it balances comfort and protection well on longer rides.

Gloves: Bering Boogie GTX

These gloves struck a solid balance between protection and all-day wearability. Grip stayed reliable in the rain, and the waterproofing held up through multiple downpours. They dried fast between showers, and didn’t overheat when the sun broke through - perfect for variable touring weather.

Gloves: Thrashin’ Supply Stealth

Perfect for warm-weather riding, the Stealth Gloves are ultra-light, breathable, and feel barely there. The fit is snug without being restrictive, giving you full control and dexterity on the bars. Ventilation is excellent - even on hot days, my hands stayed cool and dry. Despite their minimal design, they still offer solid grip and just enough protection for summer touring or daily riding.

Jacket: REV’IT Tornado 4

This jacket handled everything from mountain chill to sudden downpours. The three-layer system (outer shell, thermal liner, waterproof liner) made it easy to adapt mid-ride. Ventilation was excellent during warmer stretches, and even after hours on the bike, it stayed comfortable without chafing or shifting.

Pants: REV’IT Tornado 4

Great fit, breathable where needed, and waterproof when it mattered. The adjustable layers came in handy on long, wet stretches, especially while descending through fog and rain. The pants moved with me naturally and stayed comfortable all day - no pulling or pressure points.

Handlebar Bag: Thrashin’ Supply (Waterproof)

This handlebar bag quickly became my go-to for essentials. It’s compact but smartly designed, with just enough space for sunglasses, snacks, documents, or a power bank. Mounting was fast and secure - no rattling or shifting, even on rougher stretches. Best of all, it lived up to its waterproof claim during unexpected rain: everything inside stayed dry. The zippers are solid, and the overall build feels rugged enough for daily use and touring. For quick-access storage that doesn’t get in the way, this bag nails it. Clean look, functional layout, and built to ride through any weather.

Drybag: SW-Motech 350

Compact, reliable, and surprisingly spacious. The SW-Motech 35L drybag was easy to mount in under a minute and stayed rock solid throughout the ride. It handled twisty roads and wet conditions without shifting or leaking. Despite multiple downpours, the contents stayed 100% dry. With enough room for a long weekend - and more - it’s ideal for touring without overpacking. Simple design, no fuss, just effective waterproof storage that works. A solid choice for riders who want gear they can trust when the weather turns.

GPS Navigation: Calimoto

This is the app I open when I start planning the specifics of a ride. I use it for everything from day trips to longer tours, and it rarely disappoints. I especially like how easy it is to avoid busy routes and track elevation changes. It’s not perfect, but for the kind of riding I do, it gets me exactly where I want to go - with way more fun along the way.
